VMware Tanzu is a family of products and services for modernizing your applications and infrastructure with a common goal: to continuously deliver better software to production. The portfolio simplifies hybrid-cloud operations while freeing developers to move quickly and access the right resources for building the best applications. VMware Tanzu enables development and operations’ teams to work together in new ways to deliver transformative business results.
Many of the solutions in this portfolio have been tightly integrated with AWS infrastructure and services. With so many exciting product releases and changes in the works, this blog post provides a brief overview of each solution, all in one place.
VMware Tanzu Application Service
Tanzu Application Service (formerly Pivotal Platform) is a modern runtime for Java, .NET, and Node applications. It is an application platform designed to get code to production faster than ever before. It runs the same on all clouds—public or private—using a common set of interfaces that require no infrastructure-specific training.
Tanzu Application Service is tightly integrated with AWS and uses the AWS Service Broker to allow secure access to many popular AWS services, including S3, RDS, and ElasticSearch.
Some of the largest enterprises run Tanzu Application Service on AWS, including Liberty Mutual, Nasdaq, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Comcast has seen great success with Tanzu Application Service and AWS; it was able to deliver its AI-powered customer service platform in just eight weeks with “$20 mill and counting of real value delivered,” according to Jason Michener, the company’s director of software.
So I did a thing at work ... Seriously though, very proud of what @IAmGregOtto, @findneville, and a cast of hundreds pulled off. $20 mil and counting of real value delivered using @awscloud and @pivotal.https://t.co/dHqGINLDpj

And we continue to update and innovate to make it easier to get software to production. We recently made generally available VMware Tanzu Application Service 2.9 and launched the VMware Tanzu Application Service on Kubernetes in beta.
Tanzu Kubernetes Grid on AWS
Most recently, we announced VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid, an enterprise-ready Kubernetes runtime that streamlines operations across hybrid-cloud infrastructure. Tanzu Kubernetes Grid packages together key open source technologies and automation tooling to help you get up and running quickly with a scalable, multi-cluster Kubernetes environment. It is tightly integrated with vSphere and can be extended to run with consistency across your public cloud and edge environments.
Tanzu Kubernetes Grid is available to run natively on AWS and available in VMware Cloud on AWS (more on that in a bit).
Tanzu Mission Control
VMware Tanzu Mission Control is a centralized management platform for consistently operating and securing your Kubernetes infrastructure and modern applications across multiple teams and clouds.
It provides operators with a single control point to give developers the independence they need to drive the business forward, while enabling consistent management and operations across environments for increased security and governance.
Tanzu Mission Control enables automated provisioning and lifecycle management of Kubernetes clusters on AWS as well as other cloud providers. It currently supports provisioning, scaling, upgrading, and deleting Tanzu Kubernetes Grid clusters in Amazon EC2. It also allows you to attach any CNCF-conformant clusters to the platform, including Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). It keeps your operational burden low while providing access to the Kubernetes control plane—when you need it—for security or auditing purposes. Behind the scenes, the open source technology Cluster API brings declarative, Kubernetes-style APIs to cluster creation, configuration, and management.

VMware Cloud on AWS with Tanzu Kubernetes Grid
VMware Cloud on AWS allows you to run, monitor, and manage containers and virtual machines on the same platform using the same tools. You can rapidly migrate your applications to the AWS cloud with no downtime.
VMware Cloud on AWS recently announced support for Tanzu Kubernetes Grid. Tanzu Kubernetes Grid is the same enterprise-ready Kubernetes runtime mentioned above, but includes 24x7 support from VMware’s Customer Reliability Engineering team.
