Yahoo! Japan to run on Pivotal Cloud Foundry and OpenStack

Pivotal® and Yahoo! JAPAN Corporation, the most visited website in Japan and the 15th-most visited site globally, recently announced that they will build the world’s largest open source-based private cloud platform with Pivotal Cloud Foundry® running on OpenStack.

With Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Yahoo! JAPAN will develop a unified service platform which will enable mobile first and continuous delivery for their services, including shopping, auction and media. This will contribute directly to the site’s explosive growth, which already boasts an astounding 68.1 billion monthly pageviews.

“We are thrilled that our product is being adopted by Yahoo! JAPAN,” said Takumi Masai, Country Manager of Pivotal Japan. “In an effort to build one of the largest Open Cloud environments in the world, we are building fully functional products and are giving future users the high technology, deep experience, and development capabilities of Yahoo! JAPAN.”

With Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Yahoo! JAPAN can now leverage their OpenStack infrastructure to improve their developer’s productivity and become ten times faster.

Yahoo! Japan will deploy Pivotal’s Cloud Native platform, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, at global-scale, on top of it’s OpenStack infrastructure, making this partnership one of the world’s largest open cloud environments.

Gensho Hirata, CTO of B2C Commerce Division at Yahoo! JAPAN, said, “Yahoo! JAPAN has been heavily contributing to the development of OSS and its activities for the future development of the internet. We are excited to contribute to the development of OSS for the areas of PaaS, agile and DevOps by deploying this joint project with Pivotal Japan.”

Yahoo! JAPAN’s initial deployment of next-generation experiences will be rolling out in the second half of 2016.
