Public Cloud Adopters Can Go All In On SpringOne Platform

Humans like to follow trends. It’s in our nature. Maybe you’ve heard of the Instant Pot? I was perfectly content with my slow cooker until everyone I know got an Instant Pot and started posting pictures of delicious-looking dinners cooked in under 30 minutes. So of course I had to get one too, but the hard part came after I got it. Now I had to figure out how to make those Pinterest-perfect dinners my friends were raving about.

Businesses follow trends too. Chances are you've heard about the benefits of public cloud and your organization has a public cloud adoption strategy. That’s the trend. According to the 2019 State of the Cloud Report, public cloud adoption is now at 91%. Gartner predicted the public cloud service market would grow 17.5% just this year, with continued growth going forward. For many companies, the move to cloud is also proving to be a challenge. They see their competitors doing it, but they are having trouble doing it themselves.

If you’re looking for help in your move to public cloud, SpringOne Platform has got you covered. Last year at SpringOne Platform we heard how companies like Talanx have successfully navigated the journey to public cloud. This year at SpringOne Platform there’s a greater focus on public cloud than ever before. Attend sessions from some of the largest companies in the world and experts in the field who can speak first-hand about the benefits and challenges of cloud. I’ve outlined some key topics and sessions you should attend to learn more about public cloud adoption.

Cloud Is More Than Just a Place

Moving your business to the cloud isn’t just about migrating your workloads to new infrastructure. A lift-and-shift strategy doesn’t bring the value you’re expecting and can actually end up costing you more. Being truly cloud-native means embracing the right architectural and organizational choices to take better advantage of all the cloud has to offer.

To help you to better understand what this means, check out Fast 5 Things You Can Do Now to Get Ready for the Cloud and learn what it's going to take to get your workloads to be cloud-native. You can also hear directly from two companies that have actually done it! Comcast will tell their story in Monoliths, Microservices, Events, Functions: What It Takes to Go Through the Transformation, and Dick’s Sporting Goods will discuss it in Application Archaeology: Accelerating App Modernization.

A Look at Azure

If one of the cloud providers you are considering is Microsoft Azure, there are a few particularly helpful sessions for you. Fiserv’s Putting PCF to the Hybrid Cloud Test specifically looks at their migration from on-prem to Azure, but it’s sure to include tips to help your transition no matter what public cloud you’re looking at. Another customer running PCF on Azure is Manulife, whose subsidiary John Hancock had to learn to work in a cloud-native way to bring their apps to the cloud too. Hear more about John Hancock’s Journey from Service-Oriented to Microservices Architecture on PCF and how they had to rethink their development strategy to embrace agile and continuous delivery methodologies.

One Cloud, Two Clouds, Multi Cloud, Hybrid Cloud

One cloud is no longer enough. More and more enterprises are now adopting a multi-cloud approach. According to Gartner, 81% of public cloud users are working with two or more providers. That’s why Pivotal partners with all the major cloud vendors to bring you the best experience no matter where you run your workloads.

Fidelity spoke at SpringOne Platform in the past, but for an update on their story, check out their session this year, Accelerating the Developers’ Road to the Cloud at Enterprise Scale, and explore their approach to accelerate delivery on multiple cloud service providers by partnering with Pivotal.

There will also be sessions from experienced cloud-natives like Liberty Mutual talking about their success story, Evolving Towards a Modernized Platform, and The Home Depot—recently named a “digital powerhouse” by Forrester—who will be highlighting the details of their Enterprise Application Migration at SpringOne Platform. (Both have also spoken about their experiences in the cloud before, Liberty Mutual at Cloud Foundry Summit and The Home Depot on the Pivotal Conversations podcast.)
