Cloud Foundry continues its trajectory to lead the next big tech trend in cloud computing—Platform as a Service (PaaS). The idea here is to radically simplify the overhead of the application lifecycle by making it on-demand and automated. Earlier today, we launched Pivotal CF and Pivotal Data Services, a new enterprise-grade offering of Cloud Foundry that comes with built-in Hadoop, messaging, analytics and data store services. This is an important release that finally creates a consumer-ready platform that will open any business up to developing big data applications with the kinds of developer and operations services that normally requires a sophisticated support group usually only found at internet giants like Facebook and Yahoo!
Recognizing how important of a productivity gain this new style of development will bring, Verizon also announced today they are joining the Cloud Foundry Community Advisory Board (CAB) and that they will be basing their new Verizon Cloud off of Cloud Foundry. They will join the ranks of IBM, Intel, Pivotal, Piston Cloud and Savvis in shaping how to make Cloud Foundry the most widely usable and production ready PaaS in the industry.
Commenting on the addition of Verizon to the CAB in the press release, Pivotal’s James Watters commented:
“Cloud Foundry has enjoyed tremendous momentum over the past five months as enterprises and developers realize that it truly is the enterprise PaaS of choice. We look forward to having Verizon’s contribution, especially given its considerable talent and expertise, to our board and community.”
First introduced in October, the new cloud service aims to provide Verizon’s customers with an ecosystem of enterprise-class technologies while also giving clients control and flexibility over their environment.
