"Pivotal Could Catapult Over Other EDW Solutions," States Analyst Report

December 17, 2013 Paul M. Davis

forresterThe Forrester Wave, the analysts’ evaluation of enterprise vendors, has turned its lens to the Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW) space. Pivotal believe that the Forrester Research, Inc. report, The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Data Warehouse, Q4 2013, supports Pivotal’s perspective that the company is offering forward-looking solutions that transcend the data warehouse, enabling enterprises to transform data deluges into actionable and valuable insights.

Stating that “Pivotal could catapult over other EDW solutions,” the Forrester Wave also acknowledged the increasing momentum for EDW Appliances. “Vendors like Pivotal [and others] have created specialized EDW software to support large, complex data sets,” states the report.

Forrester has placed Pivotal Greenplum among the leaders in the EDW space. And Pivotal believes the market has proven this out as Pivotal Greenplum has grown significantly faster than the EDW market–both by taking share in that space and by successfully selling to Big Data analytics use cases and establishing a presence in that rapidly growing market. Our Pivotal Greenplum database has demonstrated the ability to scale to meet the needs of both EDW and Big Data market needs. Forrester notes that Pivotal Greenplum database “has large deployments, some of which run from hundreds of terabytes to petabytes.”

We see our platform’s embrace of the Big Data storage and analysis platform Hadoop is a contributing factor in this equation, enhanced by Pivotal’s unique combination of big data products–Hadoop, the Pivotal Greenplum database and the Gemfire object cache.

Also, the disruptive impact that Pivotal’s Hadoop distribution may have upon the traditional EDW space was recognized by Forrester. “With many traditional EDW customers also looking for Hadoop solutions, Pivotal could offer both solutions and potentially disrupt the market by delivering a lower cost per terabyte than other vendors,” Forrester states.

We believe shepherding the transition from mere storage, to enabling impactful and actionable analysis, puts Pivotal in a unique position.
