Pair Design Rule #5: So Humility, Such Enlightened, Much Wrong

November 21, 2014 Kim Dowd

Co-authored by Pam Dineva and Kim Dowd. Part of pairing is oversharing. To characterize, we externalize. And make really bad design pairing poetry.

Every once in a while comes the moment when you are *dum dum dummmm* WRONG.

Like the time we thought magenta #d33682 could be edgy and editorial in the right layout but it made everyone’s eyes bleed.

Yes, we giggle now, but in the moment it can feel so bad to be wrong that you clutch the mouse tighter and refuse to admit that you might, possibly, may be wrong.

To ease into the humility that pairing brings about, here are some poetic mantras to repeat whilst suckling your morning coffee.

1. folder supreme
while you were out
I spruced up the folders again
sorted it all, renamed them,
nested everything, twice,
it will be SOOOO easy to maintain
also
the janitor stole the snickerdoodle cookie
you left on our desk
it was not me

2. humility
I may be wrong
But to get the idea along
We shall explore all the things
And figure out what each idea brings
so that we can make some cool useful sh*t

3. shared ownership
whiteboard markers
decisions
mouse
is mine
yours
ours
