Innovative solutions in Healthcare @ AppsforHealth Challenge

June 7, 2011 Pivotal Labs

On Friday May 27th and Saturday May 28th, Mohawk College hosted the first annual AppsForHealth challenge for post-secondary students in Canada. Over 70 college and university students from health & technology programs showcased their mobile solutions for a set of health care challenges.
The fourteen teams developed mobile technology solutions to one of nine health care challenges identified by sponsors. Industry experts were the judges, including Xtreme’s VP Mobile Solutions, Mark D’Cunha. Judges selected the top teams to present to the challenge audience and picked the top 3 winners.

Matthan Moktar, Zachary Howard and Jason O’Reilly of McMaster Univeristy took home the grand prize for their text-based system to improve maternal health in Africa.

“The quality of presentations was excellent and the collaboration of technical and health services students was outstanding,” said Mark D’Cunha of Xtreme Labs. “At Xtreme Labs, we really value the passion, enthusiasm, collaboration and dedication that young people bring to the business of mobile solutions and we invited participants to visit us and see that spirit in action.”

Apps for Health 2011 was sponsored by Telus and NSERC and hosted by iDeaWORKS.
