August 21, 2014 Stacey Schneider

featured-vmworld-NoLimitsThis weekend Pivotal will join forces with VMware and our collective customers at VMworld 2014. Throughout the week, Pivotal experts will be at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, joining a large network of business and technology professionals to share expertise, executive experiences, and the stories of our customer successes in the past year, as well as inspire each other to realize greater achievements in virtualization.

Attendees can network and learn from each other through many channels like breakfasts, hang spaces, general sessions, the certification exam center, hands-on labs, solutions exchanges, breakouts, spotlight sessions, lunches, and Hall Crawls in the Solutions Exchange.

Those attending will be the first to hear new announcements about VMware strategies and innovations from cloud services to the data center. Get More Information!

How To Find Pivotal

Pivotal will lead six sessions covering various uses and areas of Cloud Foundry and Pivotal CF. Attendees will also be the first to get a preview of the new Pivotal CF Mobile Services which will accelerate how companies can develop mobile applications, by offering critical services for things like push notifications, API gateways and data sync that are built into the platform.

Additionally, you can find Pivotal experts demoing Pivotal products such as the Pivotal Big Data Suite and Pivotal CF in booth #941, located towards the center by the VMware booths.

Sessions – Monday August 25

Not Just for Developers: Cloud Foundry for Ops!

Who: Cornelia Davis – Pivotal Platform Engineer, Cloud Foundry
Where & When: Monday, Aug 25, 12:50 PM – 1:10 PM – Solutions Exchange Theater Booth 1901
Description: If you believe everything you’ve read about Platform as a Service (PaaS) you probably think it’s all about the developer. If we told you that a Pivotal CF could auto scale your applications based on current load and provide consolidated logs and monitoring across all app instances, would your operators be happy? If they learned that four levels of high availability would cut down on the middle of the night pages, would they rejoice?

Come to this session and we’ll show the wealth of operational benefits realized with use of Pivotal CF, powered by Cloud Foundry. Learn how Pivotal CF can free your IT Operations staff from fire fighting duties, allowing them to innovate instead.

Zero to 60 in Seconds: Deploying Hybrid Applications on vSphere, vCloud Hybrid Service (vCloud Hybrid Service) and vCloud Director (vCD), using Pivotal CF

Who: Bob Webster, VMware Technical Marketing Manager
Michael Cincinatus, VMWare Senior Director of Product Marketing
Where & When: Monday, Aug 25, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM – Moscone West, Room 2003
Description: In the cloud era, businesses expect to use a stopwatch, not a calendar, to measure the time it takes for development and IT to roll out new applications and services. Working exclusively in a public cloud may help IT cope with infrastructure provisioning times, but it doesn’t address application or middleware provisioning. Worse, public clouds might not meet an application’s governance requirements. Enter Pivotal CF, a Platform-as-a-Service solution, based on Cloud Foundry, that supports true hybrid deployment architectures on vSphere, vCloud Hybrid Service and vCD, and directly addresses the deployment challenges that developers and IT face on a daily basis. In this session we’ll examine hybrid deployment options, hybrid application architectures and how you can apply Pivotal CF on vCloud Hybrid Service, vCD and vSphere to rapidly accelerate your hardware and software infrastructure and application provisioning times without running afoul of corporate governance.

vCloud Automation Center and Pivotal Cloud Foundry – Better PaaS Solution

Who: Cornelia Davis, Pivotal Platform Engineer, Cloud Foundry
Vipul Shah, VMware Director of Product Management
Where & When: Wednesday, Aug 27, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Moscone West, Room 2003
Description: vCloud Automation Center provides powerful capabilities for policy-based orchestration of complex infrastructure and application deployments. A Platform as a Service (PaaS) such as Pivotal CF, built on the open-source Cloud Foundry, presents a set of abstractions and capabilities that focus on the application implementation and the run-time services it will leverage.

The value of a PaaS installation is equally driven by the set of application-centric capabilities provided, such as performance monitoring or logging, and by the set of services that can easily be integrated into an application; exposing the offerings in the vCloud Automation Center services catalog for leverage by apps deployed into Pivotal CF allows an enterprise faster time to value. And a vCloud Automation Center user can model system deployments, automating infrastructure provisioning and software deployments; this modeling is equally valuable even when the targets of the orchestrations are the PaaS abstractions of applications and services.

These products are very complementary and we’ll show you how. Understand how the combined vCloud Automation Center / Pivotal CF solutions provide the basis for a comprehensive PaaS solution. See a demo of and roadmap for the integrated solution. Learn how to use vCloud Automation Center to model applications for deployment into Pivotal CF and how to draw vCloud Automation Center services into Pivotal CF.

After a brief overview of both products, we will describe the capabilities and derived value of the joint solution that will have early access availability at the time of the conference.

Consumer – Grade Apps in the Enterprise

Who: Sundeep Madra, Pivotal CTO for Mobile
Where & When: Thursday, Aug 28, 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM – Moscone West, Room 2024
What: Now that the enterprise world is starting to embrace “mobile first”, traditional enterprise apps with boring, clunky user experiences will not cut it anymore. Business users are demanding the same slick and fun mobile experience they get from the leading consumer apps. The UI design is just the tip of the iceberg though. Powerful backend infrastructure is required to deliver the content and performance that will transform business. Join us to see how an integrated mobile platform solution from Pivotal and vCloud Hybrid Services is transforming the mobile enterprise experience.
