VMware Expands Cloud Foundry Investments for Tanzu Application Service

VMware continues to heavily invest in Cloud Foundry and Tanzu Application Service, VMware’s distribution of Cloud Foundry, to ensure it remains the best place to run business-critical applications.

Let’s dive a little deeper to see these exciting investments in action.

Craig McLuckie becomes chairman of the Cloud Foundry Foundation

Craig McLuckie, vice president of R&D at VMware, was recently named chairman of the governing board at the Cloud Foundry Foundation. A little fun fact you may not know about Craig: he is a co-founder of Kubernetes, which makes his new role even more impactful. We are personally thrilled to have Craig at the helm. You can see him discuss his viewpoints on Cloud Foundry and its future on a recent episode of TFIR: Let’s Talk.

This dedication to open source Cloud Foundry also enables VMware to continue investments in VMware Tanzu Application Service, its commercial offering based on the same foundation.

Long-term support program for Tanzu Application Service

The long-term support (LTS) program for Tanzu Application Service continues to serve as a pillar for VMware’s dedication to our customers by offering stable LTS releases that are supported for three years. Tanzu Application Service LTS releases are continually maintained for security and bug-related fixes during the LTS lifecycle. This allows customers who prefer a more relaxed upgrade cadence a chance to maintain their platforms and to reduce the amount of overall change in their environments. Furthermore, when a new Tanzu Application Service LTS version becomes available, VMware offers a “jumpgrade” path to upgrade directly from one LTS version of Tanzu Application Service to the next without having to cycle through every release in between.

In addition to LTS releases for Tanzu Application Service, VMware continues to offer fast-track release cycles for customers who want to stay up to date with the latest features that are released in between LTS releases. The fast-track releases are supported for nine months and allow customers to rapidly deploy new features that are released to Tanzu Application Service.

It is worth noting that if a customer subscribes to the fast-track release cadence, they must maintain that path until their track hits the next LTS version. Furthermore, this graphic represents future releases that are subject to change.

As you can see, VMware Tanzu Application Service and Cloud Foundry continue to be strong investment areas of VMware’s portfolio. Tanzu Application Service remains the best place to run your mission-critical applications for years to come.
