Introducing Unified Observability Platform by VMware Aria Operations for Applications

August 30, 2022 Rachna Srivastava

At VMware, we are on a mission to build a comprehensive, extensible, and intelligent monitoring and observability platform to help businesses run seamlessly. Over the past few years, we have evolved our platform to deliver invaluable end-to-end observability across applications and infrastructure.

The team behind VMware Aria Operations for Applications (formerly VMware Tanzu Observability) is excited to announce the unified observability platform, which brings together metrics, traces, and log management to deliver critical business outcomes.

As enterprises modernize their existing application portfolios and build new cloud native applications, the need for application and Kubernetes log management at scale continues to grow. VMware Aria Operations for Applications provides simplified full-stack visibility with a great user experience and predictable pricing for multi-cloud environments. Logs are a critical component of visibility, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Current log solutions can be expensive to scale, and often they aren’t fully integrated as part of existing observability solutions. Customers must use multiple solutions, resulting in complex troubleshooting and delays in issue resolution. Customers are looking to consolidate their monitoring and application performance monitoring (APM) tools to easily correlate and query against all types of data and reduce mean time to resolution (MTTR).

The new unified observability platform amplifies existing capabilities with the addition of log management to deliver contextual data across traces, metrics, and logs, enabling more actionable insights and reducing MTTR at a massive scale. The platform unifies data, insights, and actions across IT, and it offers customized and out-of-the-box dashboards for applications, with more than 250 vendor integrations to start capturing real-time data from any stack in minutes, reducing data silos, war rooms, and alert fatigue.

With unified observability, VMware Aria Operations for Applications helps correlate across metrics, events, logs, and traces (MELT) in a single pane of glass for faster troubleshooting by providing both out-of-the-box and user-configurable settings to tag logs, metrics, and traces with relevant sources, applications, and services.

Here are a few of the things VMware Aria Operations for Applications does:

  • Brings log data into every view possible, such as a distribution of errors and exceptions in logs, then firing alerts to help find the needle in a haystack
  • Offers viewing relevant logs for a troublesome trace by filtering for a specific trace ID
  • Supports logs and metrics visualized in a single dashboard to easily correlate and troubleshoot
